About

Your Piano Teacher

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, Marina Andueza has been teaching Piano in Richmond, Virginia since her arrival in 1995. In her 29 years of Piano Teaching, she has taught students who start as early as five years old or a little older and who most of them continue with their piano studies all the way to their senior year in High School. When the time comes to say goodbye, during her students Senior Piano Recital, Andueza refers to how rewarding it is to see them grow and become young adults with such an important lifelong skill: the ability to play a musical instrument and have an understanding and appreciation for music. “I found myself very often telling my piano students that the piano is one of their forever best friends. Sometimes, it takes a long journey to discover this is true, but when my students discover it, I experience the most rewarding gift that I, as a piano teacher, can be offered”.

Besides her Piano Studio, Marina Andueza also worked at Mills. E Godwin High School where she taught AP Spanish since 2003 until June 2021, when she retired, "after twenty golden years of teaching my native language", as she says. In 2015 she was the recipient of the Gilman Teacher of the Year Award for Mills. E Godwin High School. In her last year at Godwin, she received the Mr. McGinty Educator of the year award, in June 2021. Some of her piano students who attended Godwin HS became also her Spanish students, giving her the opportunity to teach them piano in Spanish. “I am an advocate for world languages. To be able to teach languages, the language of music and my native language, Spanish, during the same time frame is a unique and enriching experience, for my students and for me, that places our interaction and learning experience at a higher level”.

Andueza belongs to the Virginia Music Teachers National Association where she has served as Program Coordinator and Chair of the Bach Competition for the Richmond Chapter. She attends annually their workshops which allow her to stay current in her profession. She presented herself a workshop entitled Dalcroze Eurhytmics for the RMTA.
